Eight suspects including a former soldier are expected to appear in the Mbizana Magistrates Court on Wednesday for an armed robbery at a general store operating as a pension-py-out outlet.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli says the eight suspects, who were heavily armed, arrived at the shop in a white Toyota Corolla on Monday morning.
He says they held up the Post office employees who were manning the satellite outlet together with the security officers.
The suspects stole an undisclosed amount of cash and a grey Toyota Hilux belonging to a Post Office employee.
Nkohli said they used two vehicles to flee the scene.
He says police responded immediately and arrested five suspects in the Toyota Corolla which led to the arrest of three others.
Five firearms were also confiscated and the second getaway vehicle was found abandoned.
The suspects aged between 31 and 48 will face various charges, including robbery with aggravating circumstances and unlicensed firearms and ammunition possession.
