The final mohair sale of the 2013 summer season saw the average market indicator soften slightly to R117.22 per kilogram.
SA Mohair says one reason for this was that while there had been exceptional kids hair on sale, the general quality offered could not be compared with previous sales.
According to Pierre van der Vyver, General Manager of the Mohair department at CMW, 3 bales of kid mohair presented on the auction are recognised by all in the know as the best summer kid mohair ever and had the whole mohair industry in a buzz in the week before the auction.
The auction results exceeded all expectations when the first of the three bales was sold for R601.00/kg and the other two for R560.00/kg each.
The producers of the record-breaking bale are Billy and Fred Colborne from Willowmore, who also set the previous record of R425.00/kg, during 2009.
The other 2 bales were presented by Charles Fitzhenry from Aberdeen and Piet Viljoen hailing from Kleinpoort in the vicinity of Uitenhage and Jansenville.
It says in addition, not all auction houses were competing at the sale.
SA Mohair says the summer season had also delivered some excellent results and shown substantial increases from the 2012 summer season, with the average market indicator for the season up 17.3% year on year.
