A 52-year-old Port Elizabeth woman who made national news when she pointed a firearm at EFF protesters in a shopping centre in September will no longer be prosecuted.

The incident which was captured on camera went viral on social media.

Dianne Atwell was due to appear in the PE Magistrates Court on Friday, but the court has been closed after several people tested positive for Covid-19.

Atwell's attorney Alwyn Griebenow told Algoa FM News that after they viewed the footage they felt that there was no criminal offence.
They made representations to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to drop the charges.

Griebenow says their DPP accepted their presentations on Wednesday and the charge against Atwell was officially dropped on Friday.

In September, EFF members were protesting at Clicks stores nationwide against the now infamous TRESemme hair campaign.

In the viral video, EFF members can be seen insulting and harassing Atwell until she drew a firearm.
