The Hawks have arrested a sixteenth suspect in a cross-provincial traffic syndicate that ran out of Bloemfontein.
A spokesperson for the Hawks in the Free State, Lynda Steyn, says the latest suspect was arrested in Port Elizabeth on Thursday.
On Wednesday six Bloemfontein traffic officials, reportedly belonging to a massive cross-provincial syndicate accused of rampant fraud and corruption were arrested on Wednesday.
Steyn says the arrests form part of a larger countrywide operation which started in 2019, and a total of 16 people have now been arrested overall in the Eastern Cape, Limpopo, Gauteng and the Free State.
The accused include several admin clerks, a police officer and driving school owners/administrators across the four provinces.
The syndicate operated out of the Lengau Traffic and Testing centre in Bloemfontein and are accused of issuing false roadworthy certificates for deregistered vehicles in exchange for money.
Two suspects are still at large.
