Woman gives birth in EC police station

A Queenstown police constable has become a hero after helping a woman in labour give birth.

The drama unfolded at the Mlungisi police station in Queenstown on Thursday night.

“A woman who was in labour went to the police requesting the assistance of the police to call an ambulance for her,” said police spokesperson, Captain Namhla Mdleleni.

“On arrival at the police station, it was too late and Constable Nomakhaya Xezu quickly closed the door and assisted the lady. She gave birth a baby boy whom they named him as GACS,” said Mdleleni.

She said the ambulance arrived later and the child and mother were taken to Frontier Hospital for examination.

Mdleleni said Acting Station Commander Lieutenant-Colonel Xolani Salinger commended Constable Xezu for her quick thinking and “guts” to assist with the delivery of the baby.
