Port Elizabeth church leader, Bishop Samuel Banzana, will spend his first night behind bars on Thursday night after being jailed for 12 years for fraud.
He was also denied leave to appeal in the city's Commercial Crimes Court.
Bishop Banzana was convicted in the same court March for accepting bribes from a construction company for the awarding of tenders to build RDP housing.
The Bishop was the manager of the Mzingisi Development Trust, which ANC veteran Govan Mbeki founded.
The trust builds RDP houses in the Port Elizabeth area.
The bribes, amounting to millions of rand, paid for a luxury house and two cars.
The Asset Forfeiture Unit has already confiscated possessions amounting to R2.9m from Banzana.
