Woman found dead in empty house in Bedford


Police in Bedford in the Eastern Cape are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a young woman whose body was discovered in an empty house.

Spokesperson, Captain Khaya Tonjeni, says her lifeless body was found in the Sizakele area by a community member who alerted police at four pm on Tuesday afternoon.

He says an inquest docket is being investigated at this point.

Tonjeni says the identity of the woman is not yet known.

A community member from Bedford, however, supplied Algoa FM News with the victim's name.

The local resident who wants to stay anonymous says crime has increased in the town and the latest incident has left them feeling shocked and helpless.

According to him, the woman had been missing for a week before her naked body was discovered in an empty shack.

He further claims that the owner of the shack had fled to Cradock.

Community members, including the victim's family, gathered early on Wednesday evening to look for the suspect or for anybody who last had contact with the victim.
