The woman whose body was discovered in the underground parking area at Vincent Park Shopping Centre in East London has been identified.
She was the 62-year-old Thandi Mlambo who worked at the Amathole District Municipality.
A spokesperson for the Municipality Siyabulele Makunga says Mlambo was one of their longest serving employees.
They became concerned when she did not show up for work on Thursday.
Her body was discovered by a horrified shopper who notified the police.
Makunga says Mlambo's body is with the police to conduct a post-mortem in order to establish her cause of death.
Police have opened an inquest docket.
Makunga expressed his condolences to Mlambo's family on behalf of all her colleagues.
He says details of her memorial service and funeral will be announced in due course.
