At least two people, including a young child, were killed in an accident between a car and a bakkie on the R63 between Alice and Fort Beaufort in the Eastern Cape on Saturday morning.
Provincial traffic spokesperson, Charles Bramwell says the accident happened near the R345 Peddie turnoff.
"Apparently, it was a sideswipe, and an adult female and a 4-year old child in the bakkie were killed on impact", he said.
Bramwell says a number of patients were rushed to hospital in a serious condition.
Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
