An East London man who allegedly murdered an elderly lady in front of her grandchildren has been arrested.
Spokesperson Captain Hazel Mqala says it is alleged that the 23-year-old suspect went to the 84-year-old victim's house in Needs Camp where he accused her of being a witch.
The suspect entered her bedroom and started stabbing her with a screwdriver in front of her grandchildren.
One of the children managed to escape and raised the alarm.
The suspect then pulled the victim to the ground where he continued kicking her in the head and face.
Mqala says by this time several community members arrived on the scene and confiscated the murder weapon before tying up the suspect and handing him over to police.
He will appear in court soon on a charge of murder
