Police in Graaff- Reinet are investigating a case of murder after a doctor's wife was killed in her home on Thursday morning.
Captain Bradley Rawlinson says the wife of Dr Albertus Petrus Marais, who had already gone to work, was confronted in her home in Somerset Street by an unknown man at 6 am.
He says the 57-year-old Karen Marais and her daughter managed to chase the intruder to the back of the house where a struggle ensued.
Captain Rawlinson says Mrs Marais was stabbed in her shoulder before the suspect fled on foot.
Her daughter managed to drag her mother back into the house where she collapsed.
Captain Rawlinson says her husband was summoned to the scene and he rushed his wife to Midlands hospital where she succumbed to her stab wounds.
Police in Graaff-Reinet are investigating a case of murder and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
