The Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium will be used as a mass vaccination site.
This is according to Executive Mayor Nqaba Bhanga who addressed the media on Wednesday following a meeting with the Metro's Command Council.
Nelson Mandela Bay is one of two areas in the Eastern Cape where the Delta variant of the virus had been identified.
Bhanga made an impassioned plea to citizens to go and get vaccinated, stating that Nelson Mandela Bay had the lowest registration numbers for over 60's in the Province.
He says vaccinations will not interfere with any sporting games to be played at the stadium as a different section will be used.
Meanwhile, the VW-sponsored field hospital at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium will shut down by the end of the week.
The Metros head of Disaster Manager Management, Shane Brown said the hospital has not been used since January and is being sold to another organisation.
