The Western Cape recorded the most vaccinations in a day on Friday after registration and vaccinations against Covid-19 opened for people aged 18 years and older.
The provincial government confirmed on Friday evening that more than 53 000 vaccinations had been administered.
A total of 1.6 million people in the Western Cape have received at least one dose of vaccine.
Along the Garden Route, George still recorded the most active Covid-19 cases in the past week with more than 1 200 people who tested positive for the virus.
Meanwhile, the health department has confirmed that new Covid-19 cases in the Garden Route had decreased over the past seven days.
