Western Cape teen arrested for murder of 7-year-old boy

File

Western Cape police have arrested a 16-year-old suspect in connection with the murder of a seven-year-old boy whose charred remains were found on a Western Cape farm.

Police spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Pojie, said the youth was arrested on Wednesday night, two days into a police operation after the child's charred remains were found on the farm, Hartmansleegte in Hoeko in Ladismith.

The teenager will make his first court appearance in the Ladismith Magistrate's Court on Friday in connection with the murder of Shitino van Wyngaard.

He was reported missing by relatives on Monday, while the youth was arrested late on Wednesday night.

Pojie said the 72-hour activation plan was spearheaded by Ladismith Station Commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Pauline Kriel.

"Around-the-clock investigation, spearheaded by the station commander ensured that sufficient evidence and witness statements could be obtained that linked a 16-year-old suspect to the death of the 7-year-old," he said.
