Western Cape Human Settlements Minister, Bonginkosi Madikizela, presented his government's Access to Basic Services Program to residents of Tembalethu in George on Wednesday.
He also turned the first sod on the long term, R500m Asazani Project, which will see thousands of service sites being established for Tembalethu residents over the next seven to nine years.
Madikizela says there are around 500 000 households in the Western Cape that require decent housing but given budgetary constraints it could take up to 30 years to provide everyone with a proper house.
He says they've now adopted a multi-pronged approach to addressing this.
The approach involve the provision of NG houses the upgrading of informal settlements and the provision of basic service.
