Three men have been arrested at Willows on the Port Elizabeth wild side for being in possession of 842 units of abalone weighing 70 kilogrammes and valued at R700 000.
The men, aged 25, 28 and 38 were arrested at around 7 o'clock on Wednesday night by members of sea fisheries and the abalone task team.
They are being detained at Humewood police station and will appear in court on Friday.
Diving equipment to the value of R50 000 was also confiscated.
The suspects are well known poachers who are often seen on Marine drive.
