Well known businessman dies in Grahamstown fire

Well known Grahamstown businessman Jayantylal Naran has died in a fire that swept through his New Street home.

Police spokesperson, captain Mali Govender, says 72 year old was the only victim of the blaze which gutted his more than 100 year old home early on Monday morning.

His wife and five students who were in the house escaped unharmed.

Govender says an inquest docket has been opened.

Naran is survived by three sons.
