The SA Weather Service in Port Elizabeth says welcome rain was measured over most parts of the Eastern Cape since Friday evening.
Spokesperson, Garth Sampson says the Port Elizabeth and George airports recorded 14mm each until 8 am on Saturday morning.
East London airport received 10mm.
Sampson says the highest figure of 47mm was recorded at St Albans outside PE.
He says the rain measured in the Langkloof will not have a significant impact on Nelson Mandela Bay's main storage dams.
Patensie measured 18mm, Joubertina 11mm and the Kareedouw area between 22mm and 33 mm.
Sampson has urged the public to continue to use water sparingly.
The first signs of clearance will be seen from the west from Saturday evening.
