Wayile outlines key priorities

Stabilising the administration by among other things filling key strategic vacancies such as those of municipal manager and executive directors has been singled out by Mayor Zanoxolo Wayile as one of the interventions that will be made during the 2012/13 financial year.

In his foreword to the Draft Annual Report for 2011/12, the Mayor states that while progress was made during the last financial year, some challenges remain.

Among the interventions to be made during the current financial year listed by the Mayor are:
*Sourcing available national and international funding “to augment key service delivery projects and replace aging and poor infrastructure”
*Addressing service delivery protests
*Transforming and rejuvenating township areas “into more liveable and attractive places
*Re-establishing the ward committee system “to enhance effective public participation”
*Eliminating the bucket system
*Developing a long-term vision, and
*Addressing irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure and improving the audit opinion.

The Mayor says that in 2011/12 the Metro did record progress in key areas such as municipal financial viability and management and basic service delivery and infrastructure development.
