Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has issued an urgent appeal to residents of Despatch to cut down drastically on water usage.
Municipality spokesperson, Kupido Baron, says the levels of resevoirs servicing the town are low.
He says higher lying areas, such as Resevoir Hills, Kayamnandi, Heuwelkruin and Daleview, can be affected if current demand for water persists.
Baron says they're hoping that the levels of water at the reservoirs will overnight when demand is at its lowest.
He says water tankers have been placed on stand-by.
"As a precautionary measure we did deploy water tankers in the area, but we're hoping that people will cut down on their water usage so that we can continue supplying water to Despatch. However, the tankers are in case we need them," he said.
