Water restrictions loom for Nelson Mandela Bay

Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is expected to implement water restrictions within the next two months.

That's the word from City Manager, Mpilo Mbambisa, who was addressing Members of a Parliamentary committee who are on a week-long visit to the Metro.

Mbambisa said that historical rainfall data and previous experience indicated that the Metro's next potential water shortage is predicted for October next year.

He said based on these trends, total dam capacities will reach 30% by then.

Mbambisa said that the water situation is expected to be exacerbated by the four-year recurring drought.

He said said as a result of these factors and further restrictions by the Department of Water and Sanitation, water restrictions must be implemented within the next two months.
