The Chris Hani District Municipality in the Eastern Cape has announced that temporary water restrictions will come into effect In Queenstown, Ezibeleni and Mlungisi on Monday 11 January.
Municipal Manager Moppo Mene says in a signed directive issued this afternoon that this is due to increased water demand caused by persistent high temperatures consuming water from Queenstown's main supply dams at alarming speed.
Mene says the supply pipeline servicing the Queenstown area is under severe strain and the lack of rainfall is worsening the situation by the day.
Mene says these water restrictions call for the immediate prohibition of watering gardens with hosepipes and sprinkling systems and the filling up of swimming pools.
The water restrictions will be implemented until further notice.
