Another bloody 24 hours in PE's Northern Areas

It's been another bloody 24 hours in Port Elizabeth's Northern Areas.

Police are investigating at least four murders and one attempted murder, some of them link to ongoing gang violence.

Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Alwin Labans, says a 22-year-old man died in hospital on Thursday after being shot several times in Bethelsdorp Extension 32.

He says the victim and his girlfriend had been approached by a man known them who opened fire.  Labans says the man, whose name is being withheld, was hit several times and died later in hospital.

In another incident an 18-year-old man died of his wounds after being shot several times in Buys Street in Bloemendal.  Labans says the teenager managed to get to a house in the area where his body was found in a chair in the stoep.

Meanwhile, Labans says a 30-year-old died of gunshot wounds when a man opened fire on him and his girlfriend in an alley between Beetlesone Road and Avalon Crescent in Gelvandale.

The woman was unharmed.

On Friday police were called to an open field in Extension 33 where the body of a 24-year-old man with bullet wounds to the head was discovered.

Late Thursday, a 27-year-old man was wounded in the face when the occupants of a white Citi Golf opened at him in Booysens Park.

No arrests have yet been made in these shootings.
