Police in Gqeberha have alerted residents to be extra vigilant following two armed robberies in Theescombe and Lakeside.
Spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, said in the first incident, a woman and her family were approached by three suspects at their house in Horseshoe Drive, after 8 pm on Wednesday.
She said the men, one who was armed with a firearm, entered through an open door.
Janse van Rensburg said they were threatened and ordered to lie on the floor, while the complainant's daughter managed to run away and lock herself behind a security gate.
The husband, who then attempted to ward off the suspects, was assaulted.
"As the complainant’s husband chased after them, one suspect slipped and fell and dropped two laptops he grabbed off a table," she said.
In the second incident, four suspects armed with a firearm, hammer, and knop kierie confronted a woman at her house in Lakeside Road at about 9 pm on Thursday.
Captain Janse van Rensburg says she opened the sliding door to let the dog out when the men confronted her.
The robbers demanded that her husband open the safe and when he refused, he was tied up.
"The house was ransacked and the suspects fled with a firearm, ammunition, cash, laptops, cellphones, camera, and jewellery," she said.
Anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects involved in the robberies is urged to contact their nearest police station.
Two cases of house robbery are under investigation.
