Warning: "Don't open your door for 'thirsty' people" SAPS

Port Elizabeth police are warning residents to be wary of people knocking on their doors asking for water. The warning comes in the wake of an incident on Monday evening in which an elderly Cotswold man was robbed in his home.

Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the 86-year-old man answered a knock on his door and was confronted by two men who initially said they had car problems and then asked him for water and followed him back inside. A firearm and a knife was used used to threaten him.

Colonel Naidu says the assailants covered the man's head with a towel and took a small amount of cash from the safe.According to a witness, five suspects drove off in a VW Golf. No injuries were sustained and police opened a robbery docket.

A few hours after the incident, members from the Visible Gang Intervention Team found the suspected vehicle parked at Dolfyn Flats in Algoa Park.

The vehicle was confiscated and towed in for further investigation. There have been no arrests as yet.
