Five wanted suspects are in police custody following their arrest in Cradock on Tuesday for their alleged involvement in an armed robbery, attempted murder and kidnapping that took place around Engcobo and Cofimvaba.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana says the men were on their way to Cape Town in an attempt to flee the province.
He says police received a tip-off and Public Order Police were instructed to block and intercept the vehicle.
Police confiscated a firearm and ammunition in the car and arrested all five men between the ages of 27 and 43.
At the moment they can only be charged with the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
More charges are likely to be added as the investigation continues.
