A 41-year-old man who was wanted for the alleged rape of a minor in the Alexandria area in 2019, has been arrested and made his first court appearance.
Police issued the appeal for the whereabouts of the suspect and after his photograph went viral on social media, he personally contacted the investigating officer promising to hand himself over but failed to do so.
The man was wanted for questioning in connection with the rape of a minor after the charge was in 2019 but police said he fled Alexandria where he worked on a farm.
Police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender, said the suspect was arrested in Gauteng and appeared in the Alexandria Magistrates Court on Friday.
He was remanded in custody until this Friday when he’s expected to apply for bail.
