The Buffalo City Metro has called on the police to act swiftly to arrest those behind the torching of the house of a councilor in Duncan Village.
Ward 8 Councillor, Ayanda Mapisa's house was set alight in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The ward covers the areas of Fynbos, Gompo and parts of Duncan Village.
The Metro says in a statement no level of disagreement should lead to crimes that jeopardize the lives of public representatives and their families.
It says what is more concerning, is that the incident took place months before the local government elections, which symbolizes the end of a five-year democratically appointed term for councilors.
The Metro says a security assessment by state agencies and investigations into the cause and damages are underway.
