A 50-year-old Port Elizabeth woman is still in a critical condition in hospital following an attack in Main Road, Walmer, on Tuesday night.
Police Captain Stanley Jarvis says Lorna Poulter of Greenshields Park stopped her car to speak to the driver of an overloaded donkey cart, when a man in a Gauteng-registered vehicle stopped and confronted her.
The man, who is in his 30s, had a verbal argument with Poulter, took a steer-lock-rod from his car and attacked her.
Jarvis says the man will remain in custody over the Easter weekend pending his first court appearance on a charge of attempted murder.
