Police Minister, Bheki Cele, on Thursday, unveiled a Wall of Remembrance for the five members who were killed in an attack on the Ngcobo police station a year ago.
The Wall of Remembrance was sponsored by a private funeral company which also buried the slain officers.
Tribute messages were also delivered by officials from the trade union Popcru and SAPU.
In his speech, Minister Cele said that he agreed with the unions that people who kill police members should be charged with treason.
He said a system must be created where all those who murdered police feel the consequences of their actions.
Five police members and an off-duty soldier were killed when members of the Mancoba Seven Angels Ministry near the town attacked the police station on 12 February 2018, stealing firearms in the process.
Days later, several members were killed in a shoot-out with police while six suspects were subsequently arrested and are on trial for the murderous attack.
