Six suspects are due to appear in the East London Magistrate's court on Monday in connection with a break-in at a residence in Vincent Heights in which jewellery, a firearm and other valuables worth an estimated half a million rand were stolen.
Captain Mluleki Mbi says the gang kicked down the front door of the house at around 7pm on Friday and held the family up at gunpoint and ordered them to lie on the floor.
They took their jewelry and cellphones and demanded the keys to the safe which they emptied of more jewellery and other valuable items, as well as a firearm.
The men locked the family in the upstairs bathroom and fled in a getaway vehicle.
Captain Mbi says once alerted to the robbery, police immediately circulated the details of the vehicle.
They followed up on intelligence-driven information and arrested the men at a lodge in Selborne on Saturday night.
A Range Rover that was recovered by police during the arrests is believed to have been hijacked recently in Kwazulu-Natal.
