Mthatha police are investigating the fatal shooting of three men and the wounding of a 63 year old victim at Upper Tabase.
The incident took place on Saturday afternoon.
Captain Khaya Tonjeni says the deceased and the victim were travelling together from Bityi when they were accosted by unknown assailants who were driving in separate vehicles with unidentified license plates.
Several gunshots were fired and the three men succumbed to their injuries while the 63 year-old was rushed to hospital with injuries to his lower body.
Multiple cartridges were picked up from the scene.
Captain Tonjeni says the motive for the attack is yet to be established and police are investigating three cases of murder and one of attempted murder.
