The five people who died in a horror crash outside Maletswai, formerly Aliwal North, were interns and staff members at the Ikhala TVET college in Komani.
The deceased include three interns and two staff members.
Their vehicle was involved in a crash with a truck as they were driving towards the Maletswai campus.
The driver of the truck also later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
Higher Education and Training spokesperson Ishmael Mnisi says minister Blade Nzimande has conveyed his condolences to the families, friends, colleagues and fellow students of the deceased.
The deceased were identified as Monwabisi Siwa, a Senior Exam Officer, Christina Tingashe-Caba, the Secretary to the Deputy Principal Academic Services, and three interns, Melisizwe Manzi, Bukelwa Baleka, and Yandiswa Cwayi.
The name of the truck driver is not yet known.
