Detectives from Kabega Park in Gqeberha are seeking the community's assistance in identifying a man who was a victim of a gruesome accident on Wednesday.
Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says police responded to a report of a body lying on the N2 between the St Albans/Blue Horizon Bay and Greenbushes off-ramp.
She says when police arrived at 21.30 they found the unknown man with serious injuries, with some body parts dismembered.
A black and grey Alcatel cellphone was also recovered not far from the scene.
Police are now trying to identify the victim so that his next of kin can be informed.
Clothing Description
The victim, an African male, had a green size 42 single shoe (Moeratti brand) and was wearing a navy blue top with the logo of the Legal Aid Board on the front.
He was dressed in beige Soviet jeans and a golf shirt with horizontal maroon white and blue stripes.
Colonel Naidu says at this stage there is no other information about the accident.
It is suspected to be a hit-and-run.
