The rumour mill on social media has kicked into high gear following the murder of 42-year-old Gqeberha mother Vicki Terblanche.

She was reported missing on Thursday 21st October and her body was found buried in a shallow grave at Greenbushes on the western outskirts of Nelson Mandela Bay three days later.

The subsequent arrest of her boyfriend sent shockwaves through the City.

Vicki's boyfriend, 33-year-old former teacher Reinhardt Leach, and his co-accused 20-year-old Dylan Cullis were arrested the day after she was reported missing.

Leach, who had posted about his missing girlfriend on his Facebook page, was subjected to hundreds of people trolling his account with filthy messages, insults and threats once news of his arrest broke.

His Facebook account has since been deleted.

The case has been hotly debated on social media with rumours that the victim's ex-husband had also been arrested.

On Wednesday morning, AlgoaFM News was sent a Tik-Tok video in which a woman announced the arrest of Vicki's ex-husband Arnold Terblanche as blatant fact.

The video was quickly deleted off the platform.

Arnold Terblanche's current girlfriend has now become the latest victim of Facebook trolls demanding she confirms his arrest.

The girlfriend responded that she and Arnold did not need to defend anything and said police should be allowed to investigate the case.

She also posted her condolences to Vicki's loved ones and promised to take care of her son as if he was her own.

The woman, who AlgoaFM News has chosen not to identify publicly, further added that both Arnold and his son needed space to deal with the tragedy.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, told AlgoaFM News that Arnold Terblanche was not in custody.

The last time Nelson Mandela Bay showed this much interest in a murder case was back in 2015 during the disappearance of school teacher Jayde Panayotiou.

Her husband Christopher is serving a life sentence for orchestrating her murder.

Social Media users are reminded that they can be held liable for their utterances and accusations during the course of a murder investigation and even be charged with defamation.

An emotional Leach and his co-accused, 20-year-old Dylan Cullis, have already appeared twice in court and will be back in the dock on the 8th of November for a bail application.

It is only then that the public might get insight into what happened to Vicki Terblanche as the Investigating Officer is expected to give more detail on the strength of the State's case.

Colonel Naidu says the autopsy of Terblanche has been completed and a toxicology sample has been sent to a lab in Cape Town.
