Nelson Mandela Bay firefighters have been kept busy battling veld fires across the Metro since December.
On Tuesday alone fire-fighters attended to fires in the vicinity of Greenbushes, Windvogel, West End and Willows.
Municipality spokesperson, Kupido Baron, says on Monday the fire department received no less than 30 calls.
"The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality's firefighters are currently doing extremely well to deal with bush fires in the city. Since the end of December the dedicated fire men and women dealt with between 38 and 50 major calls every 24 hours," he said.
Meanwhile, acting communications director, Marthie Nel, has warned the public about making hoax calls to the fire department.
"Besides the costs involved in responding to false alarms, they could hamper the ability of the Fire Services to respond to real fire incidents," she said.
She says according to the Fire Brigade Services Act 99 of 1987, "any person who summons a service while he knows that there is no reason to do so, shall be guilty of an offence and on conviction liable to a fine not exceeding R10 000 or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding 12 months".
