Eastern Cape Transport MEC, Thandiswa Marawu has announced that vehicle license fees are set to increase by approximately 8.5% as from 01 April 2014.
The department says in a statement the increase of licence fees is based on South Africa's average inflation rate of 5.86%, and is in line with the standardisation of Motor Licence Fees across all the provinces, where the Eastern Cape is closing the gap to the highest charging province.
It says the cost of a license for a small vehicle up to 1 250 kilograms will increase from R372 a year to R402, while a license for a medium-size vehicle up to 2 250 kilograms will cost R792 from April 1, an increase of R66.
