Basic Education Minister Angie Motshega has told the National Council of Provinces that the Eastern Cape Department of Education planned to have all teaching posts declared in September last year filled by the end of June,
Replying to a written question, the Minister said the plans in place are to appropriately fill all of the 60 820 teaching posts declared for the 2013 year.
By doing so, there will be a teacher before every class.
She said a detailed report compiled in March showed that after the placement of excess teachers there would be 954 vacancies in primary schools and 1 559 in secondary schools.
Further appointments were currently being made as far as possible by district offices.
