The process to fill the vacant seat in the Nelson Mandela Bay Council, following the incarceration of the ANC's Bongo Nombiba, is gathering pace.
Metro spokesperson, Mthubanzi Mniki, says the Acting City Manager, Noxolo Nqwazi, signed the letter on Tuesday declaring the vacancy in Ward 20 in Kwazakhele.
This will be sent to the Independent Electoral Commission on Wednesday which will then begin the process of organising a by-election to fill the vacancy in the Ward.
Nombiba began serving his five-year jail sentence for fraud this week, after his application for leave to appeal was turned down by the Constitutional Court.
He was convicted in March last year of fraud and money laundering for pocketing R20 000 meant for a community project.
