Police in the Humansdorp Cluster are investigating a case of culpable homicide after five people were killed in a horror accident on the N2 in the Thornhill area.
Spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart says a truck with a trailer and two light motor vehicles were involved in the deadly crash.
It is alleged that the truck and a white Nissan Livina and a silver Honda collided on the N2, between Thornhill and Jeffrey's Bay at about 8 pm on Wednesday night.
The road was closed for several hours and motorists were diverted to the R102.
Swart says all four occupants of the Nissa Livina died at the scene and an elderly driver of the Honda was flung out of his vehicle on impact, moments before the vehicle burnt out on the scene.
The victims were two men aged 73 and 51, two women aged 40 and 45 and a 5-year-old girl.
The names of the deceased cannot yet be released.
It is not yet clear what had led to the accident and will form part of the police investigation.
