Teachers union Sadtu is preparing to ramp up pressure on Eastern Cape Education superintendent-general, Modidima Mannya, to step down.
The union has blamed Mannya for the crisis in education in the province adding that a long list of grievances tabled last year remain unresolved.
Sadtu provincial secretary, Mcekeleli Ndongeni, says they had a special meeting of the extended provincial executive on Wednesday, where it was decided to intensify the pressure on Mannya.
"We have resolved that we are going to intensify our action until the demands that we are putting up front are realised. If they are not realised the action will escalate in various forms," he said.
"We will start with protest action, marches and all kinds of action that is going to make sure that what we are trying to drive across is responded to," he added.
Meanwhile, Mannya has warned officials to cooperate with monitoring teams doing inspections at schools across the province.
In a memo yesterday Mannya said tough action would be taken against officials who fail to cooperate with monitoring teams, saying their actions amounted to misconduct.
His warning comes amid a report that officials were chased away from a school in Sterkspruit on Wednesday.
