A George woman appeared in court on Wednesday for allegedly defrauding a church of R2.3m
Police spokesperson, captain Bernadine Steyn, says 45-year-old book-keeper, Gwendolyne Leyd, was released on warning after appearing in court on 10 charges of fraud.
Leyd was arrested by the DPCI Commercial Crime unit based in George for allegedly defrauding a York Street church where she worked.
The alleged fraud took place between January 2006 and October 2009, when Leyds allegedly transferred money from the church's account to her own.
She will appear in court again on the February 28.
