Members of the SA Unemployed Workers Union picketed outside the East London city hall on Wednesday demanding that mayor Zukiswa Ncitha address them.
The Union is demanding that municipal manager Andile Fani be axed, claiming that he's not qualified for the position.
Union spokesperson, Xolani Somaca, says the protest was held to coincide with a council meeting but the security was tight at city hall.
Somaca has warned that the union will now rally support from all unemployed people not to vote for the ANC if their demands are not met.
