Unexpected mini-boom for Mossel Bay tourism

The adverse weather in Cape Town had led to a mini-boom for tourism in Mossel Bay.

The cruise ship, Sinfonia, was unable to enter the Cape Town port on Monday morning due to high wind.
That left passengers returning after a leisurely cruise trapped aboard out at sea.

Meanwhile, people arrived at Cape Town's dockside to board for a cruise to Namibia, but were left high and dry.
MSC Cruises said on its Facebook page that the ship docked a short while ago, and it was due to leave again on Tuesday afternoon.

However, the itinerary has been adjusted and the ship will set sail for Mossel Bay, where it will anchor and take passengers ashore with smaller tender vessels.

The bad weather in Cape Town has posed some major logistical- and public relations nightmares for MSC cruises.
Less than two weeks ago, the Sinfonia was unable to leave port on a cruise to Namibia, and passengers were stuck aboard from Wednesday afternoon until Saturday morning.
It finally set sail on a much-shortened "cruise to nowhere".

MSC has deployed two cruise ships to South Africa for this summer, with several scheduled visits to Port Elizabeth and Mossel Bay -- weather permitting.
