Members of Uitenhage police's stock theft unit investigating a case of stock theft have made a dramatic breakthrough on a plot in the St Albans area outside Port Elizabeth.
Police spokesperson, captain Stanley Jarvis, says to their surprise they came upon perlemoen worth an estimated R1.5m.
He says two Chinese nationals have been arrested and more arrests will be made.
Jarvis says the police conducted the raid on the property shortly after 7 on Tuesday morning.
"Whilst conducting the operation they came upon a large quantity of abalone, they also then on further investigation discovered that the plot is actually being utilised for the processing of and also the storage of abalone" Jarvis said.
