Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Richard Baloyi has set a new upper limit for the total remuneration packages for part-time councillors in Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, a grade six municipality.
According to the Minister this upper limit is set at R373 853 rand a year.
Baloyi has published the upper limits for local government mayors, their deputies and the Speaker, members of executive committees and part-time Councillors in the Government Gazette.
Nelson Mandela Bay mayor Zanoxolo Wayile will consult with acting chief financial officer Selwyn Thys with regard to the affordability of any increases in salaries, allowances and benefits and whether these will be placed at the upper limit set by Baloyi.
