The Eastern Cape Liquor Board says it will be targeting schools in Nelson Mandela Metro for its under-age drinking campaign.
CEO, Gonza Mati says the schools were identified through a rigorous process which involved various stakeholders, including the Department of Education.
Earlier this year, the liquor board released research findings which revealed that Cacadu Municipality and Nelson Mandela Bay were the two areas with the highest rate of underage drinking in the province.
Mati says the schools are located within the Northern Areas, an area that is often associated with high levels of alcohol and substance abuse resulting in, among other things, high incidences of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.
