Uitenhage woman badly mauled by a boerboel

A Uitenhage woman was badly mauled by a boerbull in Sir Thomas Muir Drive in Vanes Estate on Thursday morning.

She is currently being treated at Cuyler Hospital after being stabilised at the scene by her husband, who is a medical doctor.

Mandy Tuck lives next door to the owner of the boerbull and says she noticed that the dog had got out, moments before hearing screams in the street.

"We had some Muir teachers from the school that actually stopped they were on their way to Port Elizabeth that actually saw the commotion there was also a chap from a grass cutting services stopped and he apparently had a tazer on him that he tazered the dog with and infact the dog then went for him, and he was bitten as well" Tuck said.

Tuck says the Muir teachers also used her son's cricket bat to try and drive off the dog.

She says it was very upsetting, and all the more tragic as its not the first time the victim has been attacked by the same animal.

"No this is not the first time it has happened in fact I think it is the same lady that a year ago was also attacked by the dog. We have warned them before about this dog they give it no attention whatsoever it is locked away all day" she said

Uitenhage Police spokesperson Priscilla Naidoo says officers were summoned to the scene but that no criminal case has been opened as yet.

The dog was picked up by die SPCA and transported to a Vet in Despatch.
