A fire has extensively damaged the girl’s hostel at the Gamble Street Senior Secondary School in Uitenhage.
Many of the 80 girls lost school books and stationery as well as personal belongings in Wednesday night's blaze.
Leigh-Anne Paulse, who is coordinating the school's disaster effort, said many of the girls affected by the fire were from under-privileged communities in Thornhill, Addo, Greenbushes, as well as Kirkwood, Alicedale and Woodridge.
She said Friday that they were appealing to the public for donations in kind to assist the girls, who were sent home for a short break after the fire gutted the hostel building.
"Many of these girls lost, not only their school books and stationery, but lots of personal belongings. So, we are pleading to the community to assist our girls with white shirts or the yellow (school) skirts that we have. Casual clothing, bedding, toiletries, underwear and towels," she said.
Paulse said donations can be dropped off at the school on Saturday between 9am and 1pm and also next week.
