Detectives in Walmer, Port Elizabeth are seeking the assistance of the community in tracing three suspects allegedly involved in the murder of a 28-year-old man.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu says two men were cutting wood in the bushes near Schoenmakerskop in Victoria Drive at around a quarter to five on Thursday afternoon when they were approached by the suspects.
She says the witness, who may not be named for his own safety, told police he was cutting wood about 200 metres away from Forward Maluleka when the victim phoned him to tell him that three men were approaching.
A few minutes later he heard gunshots and when he went to investigate, he found 28-year-old Maluleka lying dead in the bushes.
Colonel Naidu says his cellphone and his chainsaw were missing.
"We suspect that robbery was the motive and we are investigating a case of murder and armed robbery," she said.
Naidu says this murder took place at the same spot where cyclists were attacked earlier this year. Both cases are still under investigation and no arrests have been made.
